RSA Animate – Changing Education Paradigms
As education gets more and more expensive everyone is talking about the need for education reform. From home school your children to changing the traditional path of getting a job after going through a university. Once upon a time in my parent’s generation if you go to graduate from college you are most likely be guaranteed a decent job. That is no longer than case. Even worse, students are burdened with a large amount of debt upon graduation.
This is a great youtube video created by RSA Animate that points out some of the issues. I am totally jealous of people that can draw on the fly like that.
Groupon: $7 for $15 Toward eBay Purchase
Groupon is currently offering a $15 eBay gift card for $7. The gift card can be applied toward tax & shipping and may be use over multiple visits. I have never been a frequent user of eBay but I do appreciate the site as it is the only place I can get used parts whenever I need to fix my computer.
Neobux updates mean lower member earnings?

I have never been a large fan of pay to click (PTC) programs as I find surveys to be a better way of earning a little extra income online. Neobux is one of the exception and I have used it for for the past couple years. Usually you receive 4 ~ 5 ads to click at the rate of $0.01. So effectively you can make $0.04 ~ $0.05 on a daily basis. If you do the math it comes out to be around $15 a year.
Recently there is an important announcement posted by the administrator in their forum regarding a new advertisement policy.
Here are the two key changes from my point of view:
1. The advertisement will be worth $0.001 per click instead of $0.01..
2. Referral commissions for standard members changed from $0.005 to $0.0005.
By the same token, it seems to be the cost of advertisement cheaper as there are a lot more advertisers. For the last few days when I logged on I see around 10 ~ 15 ads so essentially you can only earn less than 2 cents a day for clicking on a lot more ads. Suffice to say I will no longer be using Neobux but rather go back to doing short surveys like Instant Cash Sweepstakes.
Medicare Supplemental Insurance
While it is important to be frugal it is also very important to be sure you get yourself enough insurance coverage. You don’t want to save up your entire life to be wiped out by one accident or lawsuit. When you are young and just starting off, you need car insurance, home insurances, health insurance and in some cases an umbrella policy. A friend of a colleague was recently sued by his friends who were riding with him when he got into an accident. Based on the detail, it sounded like his “friends” realized that he has quite a bit of equity in his house and as a result they are for suing him for emotional injuries.
What happens if you are retired and is currently on Medicare? Unfortunately Medicare is not enough. While Medicare covers up to 80%, you might still be left with 20% of the bill. With the way in which health care cost is going up, 20% can be substantial. One way to prevent an expensive bill is with Medicare Supplemental Insurance. Medicare supplemental insurance can be used to pay deductibles, co pays, and other related health expenses. To get an idea how much such a supplemental plan would cost be sure to check out Medigap Plan F costs as plan F is one of the more popular plans.
So what can you do with the money left now you are fully insured? You can check out Cemetery Guide regarding where Hollywood stars are buried to get an idea of a good resting place!

$2 Off Silk Coupon

Silk is currently offering a $2 off Silk coupon for signing up and completing a short survey as part for their 10 days challenge campaign. The coupon is for soy milk, almond milk, or coconut milk. If you don’t like to do the survey you should be able to print out a $0.75 off coupon.
As a member of BzzAgent, a word of mouth marketing site that I strongly recommend, I often receive free products to review in exchange for honest reviews regarding the product. Recently I was able to participate in the Silk campaign where I used the two free coupons I received to pick up a half gallon of Silk PureAlmond and half gallon of PureCoconut from my near by Safeway. After trying both for a couple of days, I really enjoy the rich and creamy taste of PureAlmond. If you are a new customer and is debating on which one to try out, I strongly recommend Silk PureAlmond!
How close is your home to a nuclear power plant
A friend of mine send me this link last week regarding how close you are to a nuclear power plant from CNN. As someone who lives in California, I was quite aware of the two nuclear power plants and the associated risk with earthquake on from the west coast. However, I didn’t realize there are so many nuclear power plant on the east coast. While I don’t believe we can discount nuclear as a source of energy because of the incident in Japan, I hope the incident will make people more aware and implement more safe guard in these plants. While nothing is ever 100% natural disaster prove, a certain amount of preparation and safe guard goes a long way.

emergency prepareness
I live in Northern California and the recent earthquake images from Japan has really struck a chord within me. The devastation resulted makes all the things one worry on a daily basis seem minuscule. Recently a friend forwarded me a site called 72hours.org. The intention of the site is to raise awareness among the general public regarding the first 72 hours after an emergency. In most cases, you are on your own as the rescue workers are attending individuals that are most in need. The site is created for San Francisco residents in mind but the content is as applicable to anyone living in a disaster prone area.
I am also in the process of building a bug-out bag as all of a sudden things that were on the back burner seem more important than ever.
