Plum District Review
A friend of mine send me an invitation to a new website this morning called Plum District. Conceptually it works in the same way as Groupon where they negotiate with the local vendors so they can offer a large discount on one (or two) specific products for the day. The users/consumers usually have 24 hours to make the purchase before the deal expires. If a preset number of users purchase the deal, then the deal becomes active. If that the deal simply goes away.
The deal today is actually a very good one: $20 Target gift card for $15 for a 25% discount! I have been a Groupon user for awhile and I enjoyed getting specific deals at discount price. I browsed through the offering for Plum District and so far I like what I see. In addition to the Target gift card, they were offering discount movie tickets to Fandango. This is definitely a site worth signing up for if you are into bargains and savings. The site offers $10 Plum Dollar referral bonus for every friend/family you refer that purchases a Plum deal. If you like deals, be sure to check out Plum District too!

I tried to purchase a PLUM STEAL: $5 for $15 Worth of Cupcakes and from Buttercup Bake Shop (East Side), but the website said I incurred an error after entering in my credit card information. I tried to purchase twice, and no confirmation was received. Next day, I noticed two pending charges in my bank account, and after e-mailing Plum District customer service, they replied back saying that they do not have any records of the purchases on the account with my e-mail address. How is that so when I saw the pending transactions on my online bank statement!
Is this site to be trusted? Perhaps not… I’d stick and rely on Groupon as opposed to all these other deal sites popping up left and right.
Hi Sandy,
Thanks for visiting my blog and I am sorry that you had a bad experience with Plum District. I purchased the $20 Target gift card from them without an issue. While I like Groupon as well, I personally believe more competition is better for the consumers. Hope you get the issue resolved by Plum District!
I paid for a discount voucher at Plum District only to find that I could have bought items from the same company (Neige) through one of their distributors (Little Skye) for even more of a discount. Not only didn’t I need to use Plum District, given that the voucher cannot be used toward taxes and shipping, and is considered a promo code on the Neige site and therefore cannot be used with another promo code for free shipping or further discounts (as can be done regularly on the distributor’s site), it actually came out that by buying the Plum District voucher, the items ended up costing more!
I let Plum District know how it worked out and their attitude was that I was stupid for buying the discount voucher from them. They refused to give me my money back, saying it was not their policy. I guess they developed that policy so they wouldn’t have to give money back in droves if this is an example of the type of ‘discount’ they are selling and caring little if people get ripped off. Here is a direct quote from their email – “It is the responsibility of the purchaser to research whether or not our offers are a deal …”
Even I had a problem with this site. I had $10 in my account after using a promo code. When I tried to purchase a deal it was showing the total as 0 i.e. I will not be charged.. But once I pressed the button my card was charged.
I just sent the following e-mail to Plum District:
To Whom it May Concern:
I just purchased the voucher listed below today. I must say I was very
disappointed with this experience. I understood the statement below (taken
directly from your website page) to mean that I could purchase a 16×20
canvas print for $28. This is not the case. The only option available
on the easycanvasprints.com website is for a 1.5″ canvas which is
considerably more expense than $28.
$28 for a 16×20 Canvas Print of One of Your Favorite Photos – a $87 Value
Prior to following your the link associated with the voucher, I went to http://www.easycanvasprints.com. The price listed for a 3/4″ 16×20 canvas print was discounted from $89.41 to $67.06 and for a 1.5″ canvas print there was an additional charge of $20.12. Therefore, the total non-discounted price for a 1.5″ canvas print would be $109.53 (without any additional options). As you can see below, it will cost me more to buy it with your voucher ($28 + $116.23 = $144.23) than if I had gone to their website ($87.18).
Another issue I have is that your advertisement does not specify the thickness of the canvas to be purchased. Consequently, one is led to believe that there are no restrictions regarding this option. It is my sincere hope that you remedy this situation, as I have already spoken highly of the deals found on your site to many of my friends. Now, I am afraid that I will have to eat my words and warn them that if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
Sorry to hear about your experience sdws. While I don’t experience the same issue I can definitely feel your frustration. I hope they reply to your email with a satisfactory response!
I am really just friggin pissed off with this site (sorry for my language) as far as I am concerned they are rip-offs. DO NOT BUY ANY THING FROM THEM!!!!!!!!!!! I bought two set of dinner and movie certificates that supposedly were to be mailed to me. I never received them. These were to be Christmas gifts, and now I have to go get something else, and I am now out 40 bucks. I never received either of them. I e-mailed them 3 times and I never got a response. I have now filed a complaint with the better Business Bureau. They took my money and never sent me the merchandise. I just want to warn you …you better think twice before you throw your money away, YOU ARE NOT GOING TO GET IT BACK !!!!!!. I am sure they will come back with some sort of re-buttle, but the bottom line is: They got my money and I did not get my merchandise, so if you got money to just throw away have at it ………
Plum District is AWFUL, they deceive you any way they can, I bought a voucher for $25.00 but could spend $50.00 at Jcp.com only…. Well the purchase can’t be anything on sale. I find out from them after trying to make 2 different purchases, that this is the case, I was never told this before~ I even have a copy of the original transaction which I always make on these kind of deals! If you’ll look, there is very seldom anything on Jcp.com that isn’t on sale, maybe a $2000.00 diamond.. Yep I need that….So far I have been unable to use the voucher Why would I buy something I don’t need just to spend it? Something needs to be done to stop them from taking other peoples money, I need my money as much as they do!!!!! I have complained to them but when you get them in the corner, well they are done with YOU!!!!
