Where To Sell Your Used Books

This post is meant to be more of a question rather than providing the answer.  In honesty my book piles are gradually growing larger and larger and I need a way to sell some of the books that I will most likely not read again.

When I was in college I use to sell my text books back to the college bookstore immediately after the semester finished.  However, the payout I received was minuscule in comparison to my purchased price.  (As a result, renting text books has become one of the most successful online business venture).  After college, I sold all my books on half.com until my dislike of eBay stopped me from using their service.

Now, where would be a good place to sell my used books?  I know some people have recommended CKY Books as one option and I will definitely give them a try.  Other than CKY Books, are there any good sites that purchase used books at a reasonable price?

  • I don’t sell my books online I take them to a used book store and get credit and then buy all of my books from the store with the credit – I love it – my kids love it. If you have a really good used book store it’s really worth it (and if you read a lot). I also buy some used books off of Amazon, have you checked them out yet?

  • In all honesty it’s very hard to sell books unless they are either rare, or in excellent condition, or in great demand. I spend time as a voluntary worker for a charity and we receive large quantities of donated books every day. Even at low, low, prices many don’t sell and we have to be quite ruthless. Being ruthless with books kills me!

  • If I remember the name of the site I’ve seen I’ll have to come back and tell you. I didn’t use them because no matter how many ISBN numbers I put in there were never any that the accepted. Good luck finding somewhere to sell your books.

    Hi Sheila,
I do read quite a bit whenever I have free time. I prefer using my imagination rather than watch television. Good to know about Amazon, I will check them out when I need to purchase used books.

Thanks superamazingsavings, I will need all the luck I can get. :)

  • I’ve never sold any books. I pass them on to my friends and they pass their’s on to me. It seems to work pretty well :-)

  • I’m with Sheila about Amazon. I have bought many used books and CDs from Amazon and have never had a single issue with the item or the service. eBay, on the other hand, has screwed me multiple times.
