Cost of Living Comparison in Major US cities

MINT-CPI4
investing in real estate, budgeting

I just saw this chart from Mint and it essentially indicated the economy is in deflation rather than the inflation environment. Well, just my luck, the only place where the price has gone up during the past year is the place where I live. To put it in a positive spin, if you live in the San Francisco Bay Area and your boss wants to cut your salary, you can argue that cost living is still going up thus you should get a cost of living adjustment instead. :)

  • This is really interesting. I’m in Michigan, and it’s sure a good thing that the cost of living has gone down a bit, because we have the highest unemployment and times are really tough for everyone here. So many industries are related to the auto mess that people all over the state are out of work. Many small factories are re-tooling for other sectors, but it all takes time.

my parents live in South Carolina. unfortunately, both of them were let go from their jobs. but interestingly enough in a few short weeks (of resting and a bit of down-time traveling) they have new employers now. i think the cost of living didn’t really decrease in their part of the US; but we’re thankful that they can still continuously pay the bills…
