Balancing California State Budget

ca-budget

State deficits have dominated the news lately and none were bigger than the budget deficit that is currently looming over California.  With the governor unwilling to raise taxes, there really isn’t much option to cut.  Here is a link to LA Times that allows its readers to balance CA budget.  Give it a try!

Personally I took a look and I would be willing to pass some of the tax increases in order to balance the budget.  However, being a frugal, I like to see the modification to current pension/retirement benefits for state employees.  Some of the clauses were simply ridiculous.  One example is the UC system.  If you work for the education system (UC) and retired, the pension is willing to pay 80% of the yearly salary.  It is benefits like this that makes me wonder where all the education money is going to.  With all the money pouring into education, California still rank among the least in the country.
